Klaus Schmechtig, Founder
In the 1950’s, founder of the company, Klaus, came to the U.S. to work in the Chicago area from Germany where he was a highly regarded master gardener. As a young man he was strong, confident and full of the entrepreneurial spirit. He knew his experience, expertise, and concern for others was all he needed and in 1960 began Schmechtig Landscapes. As his clientele grew, Klaus began to expand the company by adding employees and services.

Growing up in the business and inspired to practice landscape architecture by his grandfather and father, Michael Schmechtig joined the company in 1987, bringing fellow landscape architects and horticulturalists with the same passion to create stunning outdoor environments to the company. Today, under his leadership, the firm continues to grow and serve the finest properties in Chicago and its North Shore and Northwest suburbs drawing its inspiration, philosophy and methodology implemented by Klaus when the company began.
